Digging into the deep past
A class field trip as part of the course “Modern and Ancient Tropical Environments” led to discovery of the first-known fossil iguana nesting burrow on an outer island of the Bahamas, filling in a gap of scientific knowledge for a prehistoric behavior of an iconic lizard. Co-authors of the work included two former undergraduates from the class (photo from a 2015 trip).

Emory debaters finish fall season among the nation’s best
Woodruff Debate Scholars Grace Kessler and Eu Giampetruzzi gained notice during their first season as a debate team, accumulating enough points to battle for the national title in the National Debate Tournament next March.

Grants help advance Emory’s sustainability vision
Winners of the most recent round of sustainability grants will put their funds toward a wide range of green initiatives across campus, including enhancing the biodiversity capability of The Complex residence hall’s green roof.

Emory sociologist explores links between lethal police violence and neighborhood health
By examining New York City vital records, Alyasah Ali Sewell found a greater risk of high blood pressure and obesity for all neighborhood residents where lethal police violence occurred, and a greater risk of obesity for women.

 

RESEARCH
Some women with breast cancer may forgo chemotherapy
Some postmenopausal women with early stage breast cancer can safely forgo chemotherapy, according to a national study from the director of the Glenn Family Breast Center at Winship.
